Black and White Flowers: Creating Backgrounds

In developing my work I pay particular attention to backgrounds. In fact it sometimes takes as much time to create a tasteful background as the black and white flowers themselves. The best ideas on what kind of background would best enhance the beauty of the flower come from closely observing the texturing and coloration of the flower itself. Nature is an amazing creator, if we pay attention it provides us with many clues. For instance the background in both print No.168 and No.164 was developed by combining the natural setting it these flowers were taken in and samples of textures from the flowers themselves.

In some of latest work I experimented with taking different parts of the black and white flowers images and creating an organic mosaic. I then use the mosaic as a background or a starting point for the composition. Print No. #149 Light Beyond Borders demonstrates this technique. The background was build by using leaves of the poppy flower, then a portion of flower itself was superimposed in the center. This work is a good example of how the light brings out the intricate texturing in the flower petals.
You can purchase any of the above images of flowers as a high quality fine art print, printed on acid free archival paper guaranteed to last for up to 100 years under glass. To make a purchase of any of these black and white flowers or any further quires please contact me directly.
