Black and White Flowers
Black and white flowers photography provides one the most sensual and elegant representation of flowers. This gallery contains a collection of flowers in black and white. Amongst them are also sepia and monotone photographs of flowers. The simplicity of the black and white photography allows the eye to rest and focus on the refined textures and shapes of these beautiful specimens. In this body of work you will find a particular focus on the contrast between shadow and light. Often it is the relationship between these two elements that create the drama in the image.
A number of these black and white flowers photos were taken through a macro lens creating a very intimate feeling. The close up view reveals the delicate texturing in the flower petals and ornate center decorations that only nature can create. For example print #168 “Wildflower Bouquet” is photograph of a very small wildflower. However close up it reveals an amazing variety of texturing. The center of the flowers glowing like a tiny light bulb. Print No.122 “Inside The Universe” reveals the delicate texturing and aerodynamic shapes of this amazing flower, drawing the eye on towards the center.

Black and White Flowers Photography: Creating Backgrounds
In developing my work I pay particular attention to backgrounds. In fact it sometimes takes as much time to create a tasteful background as the black and white flowers themselves. The best ideas on what kind of background would best enhance the beauty of the flower come from closely observing the texturing and coloration of the flower itself. Nature is an amazing creator, if we pay attention it provides us with many clues. For instance the background in both print No.168 and No.164 was developed by combining the natural setting it these flowers were taken in and samples of textures from the flowers themselves.
In some of latest work I experimented with taking different parts of the black and white flowers photography and creating an organic mosaic. I then use the mosaic as a background or a starting point for the composition. Print No. #149 Light Beyond Borders demonstrates this technique. The background was build by using leaves of the poppy flower, then a portion of flower itself was superimposed in the center. This work is a good example of how the light brings out the intricate texturing in the flower petals.
You can purchase any of the above photography of flowers as a high quality fine art print, printed on acid free archival paper guaranteed to last for up to 100 years under glass. To make a purchase of any of these black and white flowers photographs or any further quires please contact me directly.
